- in other words, Scrip is gift certificates from national and local retailers. They are the same gift certificates that you buy at the store. Many popular retailers participate in our Scrip program including J.C.Penney, The Gap, Shell, Pizza Hut, Red Lobster, and many, many others.

How This Works
You are probably asking yourself how these stores help us raise money.

It is simple - the Scrip participating retailers agree to sell gift certificates to United Way at a discount. Individuals like you buy and use the certificates at full face value, and United Way keeps the difference! The discount from 2%-15% is our revenue, and helps to fund projects such as Make a Difference Day!

Why This Works
The beauty of Scrip is that you put your money to work in your community.

You help the community just by spending your regular shopping dollars. And Scrip can be used for just about any household purchase, including food, clothing, entertainment, gasoline and even dining out!

Your participation in Scrip helps raise funds for our Volunteers In Action program and thus enables us to assist all non-profit organizations in their work by filling their needs for volunteers!
